Bedroom update: Antique chest of drawers

About a month ago I told you about an antique chest of drawers I found at a furniture consignment store.  It was beautiful as-is, so no painting necessary, just as I'd hoped for.  Since I already have a white painted dresser, a turquoise painted nightstand, and a turquoise painted writing desk and chair, I wanted some wood grain to balance out all the painted pieces.

The chest has been in place in our master bedroom for a while now, but I was waiting to take photos until I got the art hung above it.  You know me, the perfectionist procrastinator -- I wouldn't take photos without everything looking lovely, but I also was too lazy to hang the art in a timely fashion.  Finally today it's ready for a close-up!

Isn't the arch lovely?  And the carved corners?  And the feet?  And the hardware?  It also came with the glass top, which was a bonus.  Of course, being an antique piece, it does have some wear, but that's okay, because it's been loved!

The only negative thing about using antique furniture is that it's usually smaller in scale than new furniture, so it doesn't hold quite as much.  Our old chest of drawers had one additional drawer, so I had to do some re-configuring.

Here's the old chest:

And the new (to me, anyway):

The old bedroom suite has now been completely replaced.  Oh, and even better news -- the entire old bedroom suite sold on Craigslist last week.  Woo-hoo!  I think we'll spend the money on a new flat-screen TV for the bedroom, so we can get rid of our old clunky tube TV.

I'm getting closer to being ready to share photos of the whole bedroom together.  I've been promising a master bedroom tour for a while now, but since I'm a perfectionist, I keep waiting to get just one more thing in place ... and then one more thing ... and so on.  Yes, I even drive myself crazy.  Imagine being my poor husband and son!

Yay for a new look in your bedroom! :)
I'm about to do something similar in jamie's old room that will now be the guest room. The dresser I'll be putting in there is huge! So much drawer space. I think I'll store my winter clothes in there. hahaha
Love your chest of drawers hollie!

love this look! I'm totally with ya about not overdoing the painted furniture, but balancing it out with real wood. Looks awesome! Love your blog, just found it from your comment on mine =)

that piece is amazing, and you are totally right with the piece being too small for a good amount of clothes, unfortunately. but i'm glad you chose beauty over space, b/c this is gorgeous.

Love that new (to you dresser)! It's just not the same to touch a painted finish as it is to stroke a wood piece.
